Hello,
I made it to London safe and sound, although my internal clock is terribly out of whack. We started Tuesday morning in DC with breakfast at the British Embassy, then had several more orientation speakers, the most notable speaker being former Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage. The last event in DC was lunch with the Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy, Dominick Chilcott.
At long last we made it to the airport with all our overweight baggage and got settled on the plane about 6:00 Tuesday evening. The flight was uneventful except that nobody could get any sleep, because it was finally sinking in that we were actually on a one-way flight to England. The only problem with that excitement was that when we landed in Heathrow at 7:00 am Greenwich Time, we had a full day's schedule ahead of us. So, with a brief catnap, I managed to survive the initial briefings and even got to ride the London Eye (the millennium ferris-wheel). We finished dinner at a Lebanese restaurant downtown just a little bit ago.
I can't stay awake anymore, so I will have to leave all other details for tomorrow.
Goodnight,
Will
